When we lose our life partner every corner of our universe is affected

We are filled with despair and fear and we long to find some space from the sadness and the chaos in our minds.

I say this as someone who knows...

I lost my wonderful husband Simon in 2016 and found myself navigating grief with two little girls who needed me more than ever.

Move through your grief

Unfortunately there's no magic antidote to heal your sadness. But there is a way for you to move through your grief more positively - feeling hope, peace and joy once more.

Take back control

You can learn how to take back control of your life. To wake up feeling more positive and energised. And to know how to get the best out of your day so you feel like you are living again. It may be hard to believe this is possible right now, but I promise it is.

Honouring your loved one

Imagine if you could create a life you truly love again, honouring your loved one and all they taught you, without the guilt. A life in which you can flourish knowing you have the tools to deal with the challenges of widowhood.

This is for you if you're tired of feeling...

🌻 Lost and unsure of what you want for your future.

🌻 Lonely in your grief and nobody 'gets it'.

🌻 You desire more from life but you're not sure how to get it.

🌻 Guilty at the thought of moving forward without your loved one.

🌻 Low in confidence so you avoid making decisions.

🌻 Afraid to share how you really feel so you keep it all in.

🌻 Like a burden and not wanting to ask for help.

🌻 Unsure of how to be the best parent you can possibly be to your children.

I can honestly relate so much to how you feel

and I can tell you it doesn't have to be like this forever. What if instead you could choose to feel........

🌻

Freedom from the guilt of wanting to move forward and fall in love with life again.

🌻

Less overwhelm, fear and anxiety, more self awareness, balance and calm.

🌻

Clarity on who you are, what you desire and how you can take steps towards a brighter future.

THE GRIEF DOESN'T ALWAYS HAVE TO FEEL SO HEAVY

My world was shattered into a million pieces

When my husband, Simon, suddenly died in 2016 my world was shattered into a million pieces, I was thrown into a world I didn't recognise or understand. My two girls were nine and five at the time and we all had to navigate our way through a very scary and intimidating world.

I was scared, lost and lonely

I felt like I was wading through treacle in the early days, with a ten stone bag on my back, I was scared, lost and incredibly lonely.

🌻 How was I going to figure this out?

🌻 How was I going to bring my two girls up alone?

🌻 How were we going to get through the next four hours, let alone the next four months?

Fast forward

Fast forward to now and this is no longer my reality. I still love Simon, and I will always grieve for him, but I carry it much less heavily. I know how to live with joy and grief living side by side in my life. I am fulfilled, aligned and happy, I have peace and joy in my heart and myself and my girls are thriving.

If I can create a life I truly love after loss, so can you!

The results speak for themselves...

I was unsure of myself and lost – now, following a journey of self-discovery, I know more about myself than I have ever known which, in turn, will guide me in making choices and decisions going forward.

Fear of being alone – from your group sessions I have gained comfort, companionship and understanding from others in the same situation. I no longer worry about being on my own, I actually now enjoy my own company.

Worrying about the ‘big’ things – I now do not think that far ahead, taking tiny steps and keeping my thoughts in check help so much.

Always wondering what my life would be like – now I don’t have to wonder as I know I can take control and move forward in any direction I want to!

Honestly Karen, the skills you have shared and taught us widows are life skills and life lessons that everyone should have the opportunity to learn. To know I have the opportunity of a brighter future and to know I have the skills to work towards it means everything to me.

I suppose anyone could offer this course following the loss of a loved one but it takes a special kind of person to deliver it in the way you do. You are a natural. Alongside of coaching us, you show genuine compassion, true understanding, love, and commitment to us…….and you keep it real. You care and that is worth so much when we felt so lost and vulnerable. I know I will be ok going forward because of you. You have a gift and you are using it to help others. You inspire me Karen.

The value of group coaching

Humans are social animals. We thrive on connecting with others who have shared similar experiences to us and with whom we can empathise. Our grief therefore provides us with opportunities to connect with others experiencing loss and draw on them for strength and inspiration.

Joining a group coaching session can help you:

🌻 Feel less isolated

🌻 Build new friendships

🌻 Increase your sense of accountability

🌻 Restore hope

🌻 Regain your confidence in decision making

🌻 Develop new perspectives on grief

🌻 Discover new approaches to challenges you’re facing

🌻 Support others in their grief journeys

Embracing group coaching is not easy. You’re stepping into the unknown and that can feel overwhelming. I get it, I really do. However, healing alongside others can inform and enrich your grief experience and ultimately improve your grief journey.

"I honestly loved every second. Joining a group like this just makes you realise you really are not alone.

I would absolutely recommend the course, 100%.  Just do it! You will feel nurtured and supported in your grief and start to realise the importance of putting yourself first and what you can do to make things feel just that bit lighter. Karen has such a lovely, warm and caring approach and is always there to offer advice and support.

I now have some optimism about my future and, whilst I will obviously always miss my husband, and crave his presence in my life, I now have hope that good things can (and hopefully will!) happen."

- Karen

"My overall experience has been life changing, it really has helped me gain the strength to carry on and made me realise that I still have a life to live and it's ok to enjoy life.

For a very long time I struggled with guilt and my thoughts on this have switched. It was really helpful to hear the other ladies in the group and their experiences as we're not all in the same boat but I believe we're all in the same storm.

I feel more positive and mentally stronger. I always overthink everything and doubt my choices and decisions, but I'm starting to believe in myself and trust myself more.

It's lovely to make, what I hope will be, friends for life through the group and I hope we can actually meet in person when this covid is over."

Hello, I'm Karen

I am a grief and loss coach and I want to share something with you.

The truth is... grief is here to stay. We don't get over it, we don't recover, and it still hurts like hell some days.

Does it get easier?

For me yes. But that's not because my love or my loss has diminished. It's because I have discovered what works for me.

Coping strategies

In the time since Simon has died I've gained some valuable tips, mindset shifts and coping strategies that have helped me build a life around my grief and carry it far more lightly.

Flourish whilst honouring

I have learnt how to live with the loss, find meaning in my grief, and live a full and vibrant life. A life myself and my girls are able to flourish in whilst honouring Simon and all he taught us.

The right focus

I want to share all this with you so you can find your way. When we lose someone we love everything becomes bittersweet. But where we focus our attention has a huge impact on the outcome of our lives. Let's focus your attention in the right way!

Helen Hirons

I'm Helen. My late husband, Ian, was diagnosed with terminal sarcoma and, sadly, there were no treatment options. Ian's illness progressed during Covid, and I cared for him at home until his death in March 2021. I found Karen shortly after Ian's death and joined a group for the newly bereaved. Being with others who understood was incredible, and Karen's guidance helped us navigate those difficult days.

I later joined Karen's Finding Hope in Widowhood program, which has been instrumental in my self-development. I've learned to honour Ian while moving forward in life. The community has taught me so much about myself and the life I want to live.

Within the mentor groups, we have a WhatsApp group for sharing glimmers, challenges, and chatting, as well as monthly Zoom sessions for support. Each session adapts to our needs, providing a safe space to share and support each other.

I also run support sessions alongside Finding Hope and Remember for those who have experienced complex relationships with their person. This is a safe space to share your experiences in if your relationship had challenges you find hard to share with family and friends or within the larger group.

Debbie Dawson

My name is Debbie Dawson. I was widowed in March 2018 when my husband Paul died suddenly from a heart attack at 53. We had been together for 36 years and married for 29, with two incredible daughters. After struggling for over two years, I joined Karen Sutton’s Finding Hope In Widowhood programme in October 2020. This community has given me tools, support, understanding, and a sense of belonging. I gained personal insight and found a passion for supporting others in grief. Now, as a Certified Grief Educator, I mentor smaller groups within Finding Hope, offering hope, support, and reassurance that life can still be filled with love, peace, and joy.

Michelle Boardman

My name is Michelle Boardman, and I live in Baltimore, Maryland. My husband, Pier, died suddenly of a heart attack in July 2020. Pier, who had chronic health issues and a kidney transplant, succumbed to heart failure due to his immunosuppressants. We were married for 15 years, and he has a son, Anthony, who is like a friend but still seeks parental advice from me. Pier was a world-renowned scholar, and I spent almost a year managing the donation of his academic papers and attending conferences in his honour.

After 18 months of focusing on Pier's legacy, I finally addressed my own grief. I found Karen on Facebook and joined her Re-member program, later transitioning to Finding Hope in Widowhood. This experience transformed my life, restoring my self-confidence and helping me learn to make decisions for myself. Now, I share my journey and support others in the mentor groups within Finding Hope, finding reassurance in our shared experiences and mutual support.

Let me ask you

'Where will you be a year from now if nothing changes?'

Believing that avoiding your grief or boxing it away is a coping strategy is misguided. Grief has to be worked through, we need to feel every raw emotion, and learn not to be afraid of it.

Invite it in, lean into it, and explore it. Yes, It will take you to your knees. It will change you and it will transform your life forever. But it will not destroy you, so long as you give it the time and the space it requires.

I will help you go deep within and discover parts of yourself you didn't know were there. I know change is scary, and we spend a lot of time resisting it, but if we can acknowledge it and accommodate it we can create the changes that will allow us to build meaningful lives around our loss.

Grief is painful and it takes us to a dark place. But it is also a time for us to reach much deeper levels of our existence and grow through this emotional experience into something far greater than we ever dreamed possible.

Grief will shape the person you become, but it doesn't have to define the person you become.
